About Us - Office Policies for Students

Use of Office Services

Advising Appointments

The following policies apply for appointments with either Internship Advisors or Career Advisors as well as mock interviews:

1. If you cannot keep an appointment, please call the office (614-292-7055) as soon as possible to notify us of your need to cancel or re-schedule. If you miss two appointments without prior notification, you will not be able to schedule an advising session for a 3-month period.

2. We do not schedule or cancel appointments via e-mail.

On Campus Recruitment

1. In order to be eligible for an on-campus interview, students and recent graduates need to register for FutureLink, complete the Career Profile section of FutureLink, and upload a resume into the FutureLink system.

2. Only students who are notified that they have been selected for an on-campus interview may sign up and/or meet with the interviewers. Attempts to meet an employer during his or her lunch hour or breaks or any other unscheduled time are prohibited.

3. You are allowed to decline an offered on-campus interview or cancel from a scheduled on-campus interview only once per quarter.

4. You must call the Career Services Office immediately, at 614-292-7055, if you are going to cancel a scheduled interview. (With enough advance notice, the office may be able to give your cancelled interview slot to a candidate on the wait list. Therefore, if possible, please call us at least 48 hours in advance to cancel a scheduled interview.) Upon the second cancellation, you will be prohibited from participating in on-campus interviews for the duration of the quarter.

5. A missed interview will be treated as a cancelled interview.

6. If you miss an on-campus interview without notifying Career Services Office in advance, you will be prohibited from participating in on-campus interviews in the future. Additionally, your access to FutureLink will be deactivated. Before your eligibility for participation in on campus interviews and access to FutureLink can be restored, you will need to send an apology letter to the interviewer. The office’s recruitment coordinator, Jennifer Columber (columber.6@osu.edu) should be copied (Cc:) on the letter. Telling the Career Services Office that you have already sent an e-mail or letter will not suffice. By canceling interviews or declining offers to interview, you create gaps in the interviewer’s time, take interview opportunities away from other students or graduates, and make additional administrative work for the employer’s and Career Services’ staff. Therefore, you should only apply to positions for which you are qualified and genuinely interested in.

7. The office maintains the right to deny services indefinitely to students and recent graduates if they engage in any of the following conduct:

Questions regarding the policies and rules should be directed to Stephanie Ford, Ph.D., Director, 614-292-7055 (ford.82@osu.edu). Policies and rules are subject to change without notice.

FutureLink

Accuracy is your responsibility. Please keep your profile data on FutureLink up to date. On a quarterly basis, please update your GPA, listing of career interests, and upload the most current version of your resume.

The office reserves the right to deactivate one’s access to FutureLink. Students and recent graduates who engage in the following forms of behavior, or other acts deemed to be unprofessional or irresponsible, will be required to meet with the director of the Arts and Sciences Career Services Office to discuss their use of FutureLink; failure to meet with the director will result in their accounts being deactivated.

You need to consider all job and internship offers seriously before accepting them. Please consult with one of the office’s Internship Advisors or Career Advisors if you need assistance evaluating an offer.
