Getting Started with Using FutureLink
STEP 1 – Register for FutureLink
Stop by 48 Townshend Hall to register for FutureLink and obtain a user name and password. You will need to show your BUCK-ID to obtain a password.STEP 2 – Create your profile
The first time you log in, FutureLink will ask for profile information. Make sure you verify your contact information and complete the Career Preferences and Academic History sections! This will give the career services staff the information they need to forward your resume to employers. (Some employers prefer resume referrals from the staff, as opposed to collecting resumes through postings on FutureLink. Those referrals can only be processed for users who have complete and up-to-date profiles and uploaded resumes.)STEP 3 – Upload your resume(s)
Employers can view your resume directly from the FutureLink system once you have “uploaded” it. After logging into your FutureLink account, go to the “Documents” tab and choose “Upload Documents.” Choose a document on your own computer, click open, then click upload.
STEP 4 – Search FutureLink for postings
FutureLink can be searched for jobs and internships, or by employer. There are several search tools available to you. You may wish to use a one-click search on your FutureLink homepage. Or, you can utilize the navigation bar across the top of the page. FutureLink provides profile information on organizations and posting of current positions. Within the posting you will find information about required qualifications as well as the application process.STEP 5 – Scan your e-mail for FutureLink messages
The FutureLink system will email important information on jobs and internships matching your career goals. The emails will arrive from “mail@experience.com; on behalf of; asccareers@osu.edu” or possibly from a specific ASC Career Advisor. It is critical to open each email quickly to avoid missing important deadlines!FutureLink and the On-Campus Interview Program
Visiting recruiters conduct on-campus interviews for internships and entry-level employment. To participate in the program, you must register for FutureLink as well as complete the Profile section and upload a resume in FutureLink. Information about the employers who are scheduled to interview on campus is found in the Career Events list. You are encouraged to review that list on a weekly basis for specific directions to follow to be considered for an interview with a visiting employer.Essential information about your records on FutureLink:
When you update your contact information with the Registrar’s Office or an academic advisor, those changes cannot be automatically made in FutureLink. Therefore, you are responsible for keeping your contact and academic information (expected graduation date, major(s), minor(s), and GPA) accurate in FutureLink.
Your Social Security Number, or Federal Tax Identification Number, is not used as an identifier.
The Arts and Sciences Career Services Office uses the following maintenance schedule to ensure that employers participating in the on-campus interview program have access to up-to-date resumes from active job and internship seekers. (Note: Only documents in the Resume Books are periodically deleted. Items saved in the Documents section are left on the system until your account is closed, which occurs one year after your graduation date.)

FutureLink --- just one of many tools.
The FutureLink system allows you to search open positions and discover employer contacts who are closely aligned to ASC Career Services. Your internship and job search should not solely consist of using FutureLink, as the system does have limitations:
1) the staff members concentrate largely on maintaining contacts with employers in the central Ohio region, and
2) depending upon your specialty interest, there may be a limited number of appropriate positions for you.
There are many other tools you should be using in addition to FutureLink. Plan to meet with a Career Advisor to discuss how to make the best use of these tools.
