Our Internship Advising Services
The first step is to meet with a Peer Career Advisor (PCA) during walk-in hours. If you wish to schedule a meeting with an Internship Specialist, the PCA will match you with the staff member who works with employers in your area of interest. Additionally, the PCA will:
- Critique your resume and determine if the document is ready for distribution to internship sites. Please bring a hard copy of your resume for the review process.
- Assist with developing an initial draft if you do not have a resume.
- Provide guidance on other internship search documents such as cover letters.
- Give instruction on use of available resources including FutureLink and publications in the office’s Career Library.
It is important that you make the recommended changes to your resume before meeting with an Internship Specialist.
Benefits of Meeting with an Internship Specialist
- Internship Specialists have direct relationships with recruiters.
- Many companies and organizations use the Internship Specialists as their exclusive source for recruiting interns.
- Internship Specialists are able to suggest strategies aimed at enhancing your candidacy for internship opportunities.
- Helping you understand the selection process from the perspective of the internship site, the staff will help you present yourself to employers in search documents (e.g., resumes, cover letters), over the phone, and in person during interviews.
- After completing an internship, the staff will help you incorporate your achievements into your resume, suggest ways to relate your experiences during a job interview and plan for additional internship experiences. Internship Specialists will help you identify the range of internship opportunities available to you based on your interests, education and experience. After identifying these options, you will be better prepared to pursue opportunities that match your career goals.
- Internship Specialists are able to direct you to additional resources. Many academic departments and campus organizations have specialized programs that focus on career-related development. An Internship Specialist will help you discover these opportunities as well as off campus, career oriented events!
Areas of Focus: Where are you looking for an internship?

Geographic Goals
The Internship Specialists have the greatest number of resources for internships in the Columbus regional area, or with national companies that recruit directly on The Ohio State University campus. While the staff will provide resources and advice related to searching for opportunities in other cities and states, searching for internships outside of central Ohio often requires a student-directed approach.
In addition to internships, there are many other activities and experiences undergraduates can pursue to build their skills and contribute to their future career success. On campus or in the Columbus community, these include:
Research Experience
Service Learning and Volunteer Experience
Involvement in Student Organizations
