Internships - Presenting Yourself to Employers

A college degree is not a guarantee for obtaining career oriented employment – it only allows you to enter the playing field with other applicants or candidates. To be successful in landing internships and full-time employment, you need to present yourself in a polished manner. This entails three primary components. You need to be

* This factor cannot be emphasized enough! To be compelling, you MUST be able to describe how your personal qualities, education, and skills relate to the needs of the employer. The “compelling factor” is also achieved by conveying that you possess what it generally takes to succeed in the workplace.

When you are able to present yourself in a compelling way, using clear and effective communications, you will outshine the competition. If given the chance to meet in person with the employer, you will likely win them over and surpass the competition if you present yourself in a polished manner by wearing what is considered appropriate attire for their work setting.
