Arts Students Experience Theatre Magic

Last month, Andrew Freeman from the Career Success team orchestrated a captivating trip for Arts and Sciences students majoring in theatre, film, and music. Their destination: the historic Palace Theatre nestled in the heart of Downtown Columbus. Palace Theatre is run by the esteemed Columbus Associated for the Performing Arts (CAPA).

To start the journey, students were greeted by a knowledgeable docent from CAPA, leading them on a tour of the theatre’s storied halls, all while learning about the rich history of Palace Theatre.

Following this exploration, students met with two distinguished figures of the theatre: Rex Cunningham, Head of Operations, and Amy Handra, Education Director. Students got to ask the pair questions about the industry and learn more about the administrative side of theatre operations. Othman, a theatre major on the trip said, “Going to these revered theatres can always help me see the perspective of the ‘real world’ routine, rather than the academic.”

During this trip, CAPA staff discussed their career path, roles within CAPA, and their insights into working in the industry. Students were able to get a first-hand look into what a day looks like working in theatre.

This expedition, filled with local cultural immersion and networking opportunities, allowed students to get a fantastic look into the theatre industry and the process of local theatre.
