Non-Credit Internship (ARTSSCI 1191)

You are encouraged to first check with an academic department to see if the particular internship you are considering meets the requirements for obtaining academic credit. If course credit is not available, you can enroll in ARTSSCI 1191 to have the internship recorded on your transcript. To enroll in ARTSSCI 1191 a student’s internship does NOT need to correlate to their academic major.  Any internship can be used to enroll, with the stipulation that the internship must be approved by the Career Services Office. If you are not taking other courses, enrollment in ARTSSCI 1191 allows you to maintain your student status. (Some sites require you to be enrolled while serving as an intern for their organization.) To enroll in this course a student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0.

**Note on Course Enrollment**
The deadline for enrollment in this course is the Friday of the 4th week of each semester. Students enrolling after the 2nd Friday of each term will be subject to a late add fee. After the 4th Friday of each semester, students will not be permitted to enroll.

When planning to enroll in ARTSSCI 1191, students need to be aware of aspects of the registration process that differ from most other courses:

Searching For an Internship

Students must find an internship before enrolling.  An internship will NOT be arranged for students as part of this course.  Students should begin searching for an internship during the middle portion of the term prior to their intended enrolling.  For example, if you plan to enroll in the course for Spring Semester you will need to begin your internship search during the middle portion of Autumn Semester.

Internship opportunities geared toward Arts and Sciences majors are found in FutureLink.  Arts and Sciences majors can log in at  The Career Services Office also has Career Prep Advisors on staff that can assist students with their search.  Students are required to have an approved resume which can be obtained by working wtih a Peer Career Coach during walk-in hours (general time frame is 9:30am-2:30pm but hours vary by semester so check the detailed schedule) or through the electronic review process before meeting with a Career Prep Advisor.

Completion of Enrollment Form

If you are interested in enrolling in ARTSSCI 1191 you must first complete an enrollment request form.  Because your internship supervisor must complete a portion of the enrollment form, you’ll need to allow time for obtaining their input.  We recommend allowing 7-10 days for an organization to complete their portion of the enrollment form.
